The art school is run by Linnalan Setlementti ry, a non-profit association, and has operated since 1999. It provides basic art education in visual arts and crafts for children, young people and adults. Studies cover art, crafts, architecture and media arts in workshop-based study tracks. The children and youth course is 760 hours, usually about nine years, and the adult course is 800 hours, about eight years.
Students can finish with an optional final thesis exhibition; those without a thesis receive a certificate for the 10th study unit. The school also runs summer camps, commissioned training and an annual spring student exhibition. Courses are also held in Punkaharju, Kerimäki and Enonkoski. The curriculum follows the Finnish National Board of Education's 2017 general syllabus for arts education.
