Family day care takes place in the childminder's own home, with up to four children per childminder. Each child has one familiar carer. The service belongs to a network whose childminders work across Finland, are trained with pedagogical skills, and are supervised by the municipality.
Children go outdoors and exercise in nature every day, and home-cooked meals are part of the day. Before a placement you can make a free trial visit to the childminder's home, and a gradual soft start is possible with a parent present for the first days. Applications are made through an online form.
