The cinema opened on 26 December 1948 under the name Kuvakota, founded by Olavi Laakso and Erkki Salin. The opening night showed the colour film Million Dollar Mermaid (Vedenneito). It has operated under its present name since 1961. The original auditorium had 164 seats, later 265, and at first 315. The equipment was bought second-hand from the Tähtikino cinema in Salo, and the sound changed from mono to Dolby Stereo. The projection booth began with a Saxonia projector and later used Dresden D 2 projectors.

The website has a detailed history page written from the founders' recollections. The car park is wheelchair accessible.
