This art museum and gallery presents the permanent collection of the painter Andreas Alariesto. It opened in July 1986 and holds 64 paintings that Alariesto donated to the municipality. It aims to preserve the cultural heritage of Lapland and the old Sompio region. It is run by the Lapinkuvat foundation and the municipality, and Alariesto's life work was transferred to the Kauko Sorjonen foundation in 2020.
There is an exhibition space and a café. The museum is open year-round and closed on Finnish public holidays. The car park and toilet are wheelchair accessible, but the entrance is not.
