The parish belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland, within the Ylä-Savo parish union, Iisalmi deanery and Kuopio diocese. It became independent of Iisalmi's mother parish in 1897. The church, designed by architect Josef Stenbäck, was consecrated on 6 November 1910 and restored in 2001–2002, with the interiors returned to Stenbäck's original design and colours. The parish also runs the Sukeva church, Kauppilanmäki chapel, a parish hall and the Hirsikangas camp centre.
The service office handles bookings of priests, cantors and parish premises for weddings, baptisms, family events and meetings. Funeral services include a priest, cantor and venue, and grave and headstone matters can be arranged. Church record certificates and genealogy inquiries go through the Kuopio regional register. Activities include a weekly open prayer group, Bible study groups and church services, some streamed or broadcast on the radio. A second-hand flea market runs in the village centre. The car park, entrance and toilet are wheelchair accessible.
