This local Lions club is part of an international volunteer service organisation and, according to its website, the oldest Lions club in Inner Savo. It belongs to district 107-K of Lions-liitto ry. Members come from many professions and want to take part in community service, aiming for fellowship, friendship and internationalism. The club does volunteer work for non-profit organisations, helps elderly people, disabled people and war veterans, and supports young people with scholarships and hobby funding.
Funds are raised through collections, raffles, bazaars and public events. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month, with a meal at Ravintola Valkoapila beforehand. Lions Clubs International has over 1.4 million members in about 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and regions.
