Registered in 2006, the foundation preserves the history of the French geodesic expedition that worked in the river valley in 1736–1737. It promotes research, publications, exhibitions and related cultural and tourism services, while building international partnerships.
The expedition's measurement points are being developed into a linked cultural hiking destination, with a digital guide already available. The foundation grew from the Korteniemi family association; the family's inn hosted expedition members. It welcomes cooperation that brings this history to life.
