A marked nature trail circles the roughly 12-hectare lake, with a lean-to shelter and birdwatching tower. About a third of the lake is overgrown shoreline marsh. It is a regionally significant bird lake with a diverse breeding population for its size.
Loops range from about 1.4 to 3.8 kilometres depending on the starting point. Routes begin by the tunnel near Saarnisto school and at the ends of Juolukkatie and Otavakuja. Orange diamond markers show the route, with maps at start and junction points. There is no accessible car park.
