This theatre institution stages performances in Swedish. The theatre was founded in 1919, and its first venue was a provisional hall on the upper floor of Hotel Ernst. The original theatre building burned down in 1953, and the building was then renovated and reopened. The house was renovated in 2018–2019 with new stage, lighting and sound technology, and is described as an accessible theatre house.
The theatre runs its own productions and co-productions, with a repertoire of drama, comedy and musicals. Guest actors, directors, designers and musicians work alongside the permanent ensemble. The Ernst Salonger restaurant on site serves lunch on weekdays and Saturdays. Food and table service can be pre-ordered for performance visits, and tickets are sold online. The hearing loop, seating, car park, entrance and toilet are all accessible.
