This Neo-Gothic church was designed by C. A. Setterberg and completed in 1862. It is the main church of the Finnish-speaking and Swedish-speaking parishes, used for services, concerts and church ceremonies. The altarpiece is Albert Edelfelt's 1894 Adoration of the Shepherds. The main organ is a 45-stop Marcussen & Son. Services are broadcast on the radio every Sunday. The church also houses St Olav Ostrobothnia Wasa, the region's first official pilgrimage centre, with a pilgrim passport stamping point.
A lift gives wheelchair access to the nave and crypt, a ramp leads to the altar, and the crypt has an accessible toilet. An induction loop is installed, and a hymnal printed in Braille can be borrowed from the caretaker. There are three accessible parking spaces at Kirkkopuisto and one paid electric car charging point. The nave and gallery seat about 900 and the crypt about 100. A children's play area is at the back, and a defibrillator is in the entrance hall.
