This professional theatre was founded in 1986 as Teatteri Kehä III and took its present name in its 20th year. Its main venue is the intimate Silkkisali (Silk Hall) in the former Tikkurila Silk Factory, opened in 1995. The programme includes theatre, musicals, concerts, drama and comedy for adults and children, and it often premieres new works, including world premieres of Finnish and European plays and musicals. The theatre also tours around Southern Finland, and has children's and family productions as well as a touring programme for young children.
There is a cafe and restaurant, Cafe Silkki, and a theatre bar; some events are age-restricted (K18) when drinks are served. Staff artists are hired per production, and the theatre was one of the first in Finland to do so. The Friends association was founded in 1995 and has over a hundred members. The car park, entrance and toilet are wheelchair accessible.
