In use since 2015, the pneumatic waste system takes residents' waste from nearby collection points through underground pipes to a central station. Recycling rooms accept items unsuitable for the pipes, including glass, metal, cardboard and bulky objects.
The central station recycling room is also a backup point. A collection vehicle visits the rooms at the start of each month for items such as appliances and furniture. Instructions are in Finnish, Swedish and English. Advice is available on weekdays, with a round-the-clock fault line for urgent disruptions.
