Merja Ranki's public artwork combines a roughly six-metre plasma-cut corten-steel tree sculpture with wall and ceiling paintings in a car park. Created in 2013 and 2016, the ensemble draws on Zacharias Topelius's fairy tale The Birch and the Star. Apple-picker details were inspired by 1950s Tikkurila Silk prints.
The paintings are on parking levels P1 and P2, reached by lift or stairs. Access is through a corten-steel entrance building beside the playground. The work belongs to the city's public art collection, managed by Artsi art museum.
