This is a Finnish state enterprise that combines commercial operations with public administrative duties. It manages and protects about 12 million hectares of state-owned land and water areas. Its subsidiary Metsätalous Oy runs forestry, including the VAMOS 2100 programme on adapting state forests to climate change. Forestry contracting and procurement cover crushing, excavator soil preparation and peatland restoration.
Online services include recreation site information and the Luontoon.fi nature portal, Eräluvat.fi for hunting and fishing permits, and a map service. It also runs Haltia, the Finnish Nature Centre, and Tiedekeskus-Pilke, a science centre on forests. Its websites offer reports and guides, information on large carnivores and job openings, and plots, forest properties and mineral resources are sold or tendered through them.
