This bakery-confectionery traces back to 1957, when Asko Kirjonen founded the bakery in Vinkkilä. It moved to its current premises in 1982 and was renamed Askondi Oy. A family business for over six decades, it was acquired by Saariston Leipä Oy in November 2021. The café is combined with a bakery shop, and a second café in central Uusikaupunki receives fresh products from the bakery.
Bread, pastries, confectionery and cakes are made to order for everyday and celebrations. It is known for meat pies, rye loaf, pasties, piispanmunkki (a filled doughnut) and sourdough bread. Most products are lactose-free, gluten-free and vegan confectionery options are available, and individual special diets are accommodated where possible. The shop also sells Saariston Leipä Oy products alongside its own artisan breads. The car park, entrance and toilet are wheelchair accessible.
