Cafés, restaurants and specialist shops surround the market square. Trading is busiest in summer and on Fridays throughout the year, and the square hosts the annual Wilma market. Torinranta beside Lake Keitele is a recreation area for residents and holidaymakers.
The adjoining Porthanin puisto park has walking routes, rest spots and play equipment. Stalls can be booked through the town office for a day, a week or longer. The square has an accessible entrance and parking for wheelchair users.
