This protected old-growth forest in Helsinki covers 23.02 hectares; logging stopped here in the 1930s, and the area was protected on 10 May 1984. Dead trunks support many bracket fungi, other fungi and insects. Woodpeckers, treecreepers and pied flycatchers nest here, and mammals include badgers, foxes, squirrels and hares.
Visitors must stay on marked paths, and each of the three entry points has an information board. The 1.2 km Korpipolku nature trail, built in 2011, crosses a recovering forest centred on a herb-rich swamp valley drained in the early 1900s, whose ditches were dammed in 2005. The narrow trail is not maintained in winter and is not suitable for pushchairs. Dogs are allowed.
