The manor's present main house and outbuildings date from 1790, during Johannes Weckström's ownership. Domarby appears in records as early as 1417. The Kavaleff merchant family acquired the estate in 1845, and agronomist Jakob Kavaleff developed experimental gardens growing around a hundred potato varieties.
The city bought the estate in 1917. The main house was restored to its late-18th-century appearance in 1960–1961 and housed a museum from 1962 to 2013. The park and gardens date from the early 1800s, with other courtyard buildings from later that century. First World War fortifications survive on the grounds, including a covered machine-gun position.
