Helsinki's Central Park is a strip of forest about 10 km long, running from Töölönlahti Bay to Haltiala at the city's northern boundary, and it is the city's largest outdoor recreation area. Bertel Jung drew up the plan in 1911, and the park was founded in 1914. Most of it is mixed forest, the oldest stands are 100 to 120 years old, and parts are nature reserves. It receives over two million outdoor visits a year.
A signposted main route runs north to south, a 16 km mountain bike trail is shared with other users, and some routes become ski tracks in winter. There are fitness trails, sports parks, playgrounds, picnic tables and a dog park. Lit routes go dark from 11 pm to 6 am.
