Open since 1992 in what used to be an art gallery, this Helsinki classic has a street-level café and a first-floor dining room, both looking out over Esplanadi park. The café serves breakfast and lunch, such as salmon soup, salads and warm bread, with carrot cake and lemon meringue pie in the display case. Upstairs the menu features classics like meatballs, charcoal-grilled salmon and toast Skagen, plus seasonal dishes.
The upstairs Kirjastobaari (Library Bar) serves drinks and small bites all year, and in summer the café has a terrace. Tables can be booked online, as can a private room for parties and meetings. Dogs are welcome, there is a children's menu, and the toilet is accessible.
