Completed in 1928, this is Helsinki's only remaining traditional wood-heated neighbourhood sauna and its oldest surviving public bathhouse for men and women. The men's side is at street level and the women's, the same size, upstairs. The men's single-firing stove weighs about 7,000 kg. It is run by the Holopainen family, today Risto and Merja.
Public sessions need no booking, and you can stay as long as you like. The desk rents towels and sells vihta birch whisks and drinks, and a washer gives full-body scrubs on Thursdays and Saturdays. Men bathe without swimwear, and many cool off outside watching the street. The private sauna is booked by phone, and cards and mobile payments are accepted.
