According to its website, Hipko is the largest family martial arts school in Finland. Founded in 1998 as a self-defence school, the club has more than 1,500 members, and its members have won Finnish and world championship medals. The Metsälä gym is the club's flagship: about 700 square metres over three floors. The top floor is used for hapkido and taekwondo, the middle-floor Fight Zone has a round free-fighting wall, and the basement garage has kettlebells, benches and exercise balls.
Classes include taekwondo, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, practical hapkido, Sin Moo hapkido, fitness boxing, fitness kickboxing, kettlebell training and yoga. Children's and family classes are offered, including ones for ages 7 to 15. The gym also offers strength training and massage for muscle care, and its rooms can be used for lectures and workplace wellbeing events. A free trial lesson can be booked beforehand. Parking is in the gym's own yard or along the street, and Käpylä railway station and several bus lines are nearby. The entrance is not wheelchair accessible.
