Founded in 1883, the association owns the main buildings on Lammassaari. The recreation island lies within the Viikki-Vanhankaupunginlahti nature reserve, part of Natura 2000 and the Ramsar wetland network. It has a birdwatching tower and over a hundred private summer cottages.
Pohjolan Pirtti can be hired by non-members for weddings, parties and corporate events. Islanders book sauna slots, with shared sessions in summer. Boardwalks may flood when sea level rises above around +60 cm. Household waste goes to the pier waste shelter; other waste must be taken to the mainland. Water quality in the two wells is tested regularly.
