Established in 1919, the professional and ideological federation brings together midwives and midwifery students. It grew from regional associations, the first founded in 1898. Labour representation has been handled by Tehy since 1982, while the federation focuses on professional work.
Members receive the professional journal Kätilölehti, also titled Tidskrift för Barnmorskor. Training events and webinars are offered, and the federation publishes practice recommendations and statements. Membership is available to practising midwives and students.
