The school provides extensive-syllabus basic visual arts education for ages 5–20 at three teaching locations. Subjects include drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, media art and construction, with long-standing focuses on animation and comics. Teachers have pedagogical training, and many are professional artists.
Adult basic arts education, short courses and children's holiday workshops are also offered. A supporting association runs the school with grants from the city and the Ministry of Education and Culture. Learning is monitored through Virvatuli self-assessment, and the school participates in Finland's model for leisure activities. The entrance is not wheelchair accessible.
