This black box theatre hall in Kasarmipuisto park focuses on contemporary dance. It hosts most of the dance productions made by ITAK as well as visiting Finnish and international performances. The intimate space has theatre technology and seats 106 in a rising, retractable auditorium on wheels.
The theatre is run by the association Tanssitaiteen tuki ry, founded on 25 November 2004. ITAK, the Eastern Finland Regional Dance Centre, is one of six regional dance centres in Finland, covering North Savo, North Karelia and South Savo. It supports professional dance art in eastern Finland and produces performances across its region. Each November it hosts the Yksin Sateessa dance festival in Joensuu. The entrance and toilet are wheelchair accessible.
