The city museum occupies a block of traditional wooden residential buildings and a courtyard dating from the turn of the 1800s and 1900s. Its displays include a recreation of the home salon of the writer Minna Canth and a period pharmacy, alongside temporary exhibitions. Online exhibitions are also available.
There are programmes for schools and daycare centres, and hands-on Koe ja opi (Try and Learn) experiences let visitors explore the past by doing. An accessible toilet is available.
