Raimo Utriainen's abstract sculpture honours writer and playwright Maria Jotuni (1880–1943). Commissioned by the city for the centenary of her birth, it was unveiled in 1983 and is made of aluminium and hardened stainless steel.
The sculpture stands in Theatre Square in front of the city theatre and was assembled on site around a frame. An abstract form was chosen instead of a likeness because of the writer's reserved character. The approach is wheelchair accessible.
