Founded in 1971, the volunteer lake rescue association belongs to the Finnish Lifeboat Institution. It undertakes assistance, search and rescue missions in the Vuoksi water system, including Kallavesi, nearby lakes and canals, independently and in support of authorities. It also provides training and boating safety education.
Duty service runs around the clock during the open-water season. Three rescue vessels are based at Pirttiniemi, with Iivarinsalo also used during the busiest boating season. Members can obtain the Finnish Lifeboat Institution's boat assistance membership service.
