The association supports informal carers as well as chronically ill, disabled and elderly people in North Savo. It offers guidance and counselling to carer families and looks after carers' interests. It also runs peer support groups and recreational activities.
Membership is open to contract carers, relatives who help and anyone interested in the topic. The OmaisOiva activities are meant for carers of people with illness, are funded by STEA and need no membership. The association publishes a member newsletter and a blog, runs a Facebook page and has made a podcast on carer life. Its website also links to Omaishoitajaliitto, Kela and Finlex.
