This round-the-clock emergency unit serves people over 18 with mental health, substance use and addiction concerns. It assesses the need and urgency of care and provides urgent treatment in the unit or on psychiatric wards. It also assesses the need for withdrawal treatment, which may take place as outpatient care, at the Pajarila addiction unit or on a ward.
Run by the South Karelia wellbeing services county, the unit accepts patients without a referral. It is in the Central Hospital's L-wing, which has a self-service check-in kiosk. Non-urgent certificates and prescription renewals go through regular clinics. The entrance, parking and toilet are accessible.
