The organisation is Finland's central body for the poultry sector and has operated since 1918. It is politically neutral and acts as a link between industry organisations, producers and the authorities. It follows legislation and gives statements to authorities and sector companies.
Poultry producers and sector companies receive advice, including on-farm visits. The organisation monitors farm profitability and production conditions, runs training days and lectures, and publishes guidelines, bulletins and the Suomen Siipikarja magazine. Its Kanava service supplies sample kits for salmonella monitoring. In animal disease situations it supports producers and calculates animal values and loss of gross margin in damage cases. The Broiler Association and Egg Association operate in connection with it.
