This medieval church was built around 1495–1505 and is now a roofless ruin. It was originally Catholic and was refitted in Lutheran style after the Reformation. Russian troops plundered it after the Battle of Kostianvirta in 1713. It was abandoned in 1839 when a new church was completed, and the roof collapsed in a storm in December 1890. The parish owned it again from 1905, and services have been held there again since the 1920s.
The Pälkäneen Vanhankirkon Suojeluyhdistys protection association was founded in 2002 to maintain the walls and fund restoration. A protective glass roof on a wooden frame is being installed to shield the walls. The ruin hosts concerts and church services and is a popular wedding church. It can also be rented for other celebrations and events. The entrance is wheelchair accessible.
