Founded in 1901, the local heritage society preserves urban culture, history and community spirit. It adopted its present name in 1957. Its work has included protecting statues and rocky shorelines and opposing street violence.
A city celebration held with partners since 1961 is a prominent part of its activities. The society maintains a poster and picture archive documenting local history. Updates are available through Facebook and Instagram.
