Opened to the public in 1938, this local history museum covers the area's past from prehistory to the Second World War. It comprises a permanent exhibition, an art gallery and an outdoor museum area, alongside changing exhibitions. The art collection includes works by Pekka Halonen, Magnus von Wright and Ville Vallgren.
Groups book guided tours in advance through an electronic form, and tickets can be purchased ahead of a visit. Collections and artist presentations are also available online. A foundation maintains the museum, which stands in a nationally valued built heritage area.
