This nature trail circles Koivusaari, a small delta island in the Ounas River about 2.5 km from the city centre. The easy route is popular for photography, bird-watching and short hikes, and the island has an easy-access duckboard and a bird-watching tower. Its meadows were used for grazing and haymaking until the 1960s, and sheep graze there in summer. The Ounas delta islands are an important bird habitat: about 90–100 of 135 recorded species have nested in the area.

Benches are provided along the trail, and beside Ounaspaviljonki beach stands a log-built lean-to with a campfire site and woodshed. Toilets, a boat ramp and a marina are in the area. It can be reached by public transport, about a 500 m walk from a bus stop at the Kuusamontie crossroads. The trail suits spring, summer and autumn outings, but the entrance is not wheelchair accessible.
