Family day care takes place in the childminder's own home. Each childminder looks after up to four children, and every child has one familiar carer. Children go outdoors and exercise in nature every day, and home-cooked meals are part of the day. Childminders are trained with pedagogical competence, and the municipality supervises the care.
A free trial visit to the childminder's home is offered before a placement, and a gradual soft start is possible with a parent present for the first days. Applications are made through an online form. The service belongs to a network covering Finland.
