This national association promotes and sustains interest in church music. It publishes Kirkkomusiikkia, which its website calls Finland's oldest music magazine, and sacred music that other publishers would not find commercially viable, sold through Canto-kustannus. Its activities are guided by a board elected by the members.
The association trains singers, instrumentalists and artistic leaders of church music groups, and some courses are open to members only. Member parishes and organisations can apply for event and training grants, for example for visiting trainers or joint rehearsals. It co-organises local and national events such as children's and youth choir events, church music seminars and Nordic church song festivals, and runs a yearly national church music day to recruit new participants. It also awards annual, merit and hymn badges.
