Designed by Alvar Aalto and completed in 1965, the library combines a fan and rectangle in its floor plan, with a central lending desk and sunken reading room behind it. It served as the main library until 2012. A renovation completed in 2015 restored the original appearance, reading-room furniture and lights.
Collections cover architecture, folklore, art, history and regional material. There are genealogy resources, a children's department and an Aalto glass collection in the former newspaper room and lending desk area. An underground passage links the building to Apila main library. Entry and parking are wheelchair accessible.
