The nine-year comprehensive school follows Finnish compulsory education using Steiner teaching methods. Each grade has a home classroom, and first graders use bench pedagogy rather than desks. Forest outings and outdoor nature study are part of the curriculum. The log-walled school opened in 2020, incorporating timber from a 1920s municipal building designed by Matti Visanti.
It has its own kitchen, and classes eat lunch together. Upper-grade woodwork takes place at another school, while PE uses halls in Piiri and municipal sports facilities. Graduates can continue to any upper secondary school. The entrance and parking are wheelchair accessible.
