This non-profit organisation works to improve leisure opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities. It issues the Ystävänkortti (friend card), which lets a companion or assistant attend many leisure activities free of charge. The card belongs to the person with the disability, who chooses their own companion.
It trains volunteers to become friends for activities such as going to the cinema, coffee or walks, and runs a friend-matching service. The website lists, by municipality, the providers that accept the card: sports venues, cultural institutions, adult education centres, museums and associations. The office is in the Frami building, and the car park is wheelchair accessible.
Have you used the friend card? Share your experience in the comments to help other families.
