Founded in 1976, the national patient organisation serves people with coeliac disease, dermatitis herpetiformis and others needing a gluten-free diet. It brings together 30 local associations with over 20,000 members. Alongside information and peer support, its work addresses the safety, availability and quality of gluten-free products and services.
Relatives and health and nutrition professionals can also join. The organisation publishes recipes and runs events including the Gluteeniton elämä gluten-free living fair. It adopted its present name in 2006.
