Established as a German Shepherd enthusiasts' branch in 1978, it became an independent registered association in 2002. It promotes breeding to the breed standard and understanding of the breed, and belongs to the national German Shepherd, kennel and working dog organisations.
Certified instructors provide obedience, protection and competitive obedience training. Activities include breed events, breeding inspections, endurance tests and competitions. The association has also organised shows and basic manners courses. It has its own training field, leased from the city since 1994.
