Operating since 1946, the opera company stages productions at the city's concert and congress hall. Its spring productions feature visiting artists, the city's philharmonic orchestra and a chorus of around 80 singers, led by Heikki Liimola since 1990.
Performances take place in the Main Auditorium. Activities are produced by the venue operator and supported by a foundation established in 1997 to sustain and develop opera. The company's first foreign tour took it to Prague's National Theatre in 2005.
