This Lutheran parish church stands on Pirkkiö island at the mouth of the Torne River. The present building dates from 1797 and shows the neoclassical style of the church builder Jaakko Riif, who also designed the central altar and pulpit. Churches have stood on the site since at least the 14th century, with a wooden church first recorded around 1316. Of the medieval stone church, only the eastern cross-arm remains, built into the present church.
The church seats about 1,200 people. An induction loop serves hearing aid users, with a coverage map on the church website. The car park, entrance and toilet are wheelchair accessible. Venue bookings are handled by the parish office.
