The main church of the Mikael parish in Turku is a brick building combining neo-Gothic and National Romantic features. Lars Sonck designed it at the age of 23 after winning an architecture competition in 1894, and it was consecrated on Candlemas in 1905. Its 77-metre tower is a landmark on Turku's skyline, and its acoustics make it a venue for concerts.
Weddings and baptisms are booked through the parish booking service, concerts through the chief cantor. The building stands on a high hill, so the climb from the street is demanding, but wheelchair users can enter directly and cars can drive close to the main door. There is a ramp to the altar, an accessible toilet and an induction loop.
