Founded in 1969, the national environmental association works to prevent litter and eutrophication in Finnish waters. It maintains around 200 Roope service points for boaters, with service vessels collecting waste, sewage and oil. Its Roska-Roope litter vessel uses solar panels.
Beach litter has been monitored at 15 sites since 2011. Environmental education includes a school sponsor-class programme, while harbours receive help with environmental and safety practices. Support is possible through membership, donations or corporate partnership.
