Harjula Settlement provides statutory criminal and civil mediation in Kanta-Häme and Päijät-Häme under THL oversight. Mediation is voluntary, impartial and confidential and does not determine criminal guilt. Cases may include property offences, minor violence, defamation and neighbour disputes, including acts by children under 15.
Two trained volunteer mediators conduct meetings, with an interpreter if needed. Referrals can come from a party, guardian, police, prosecutor or another authority or service. Contact is by online form or phone. Agreements are reported to police or prosecutors, and the office monitors their fulfilment.
