The University of Helsinki animal hospital's equine unit treats horses for acute and long-term problems, and its 24-hour emergency service takes patients from all over Finland. Care is given by specialist vets, nurses and students, led by holders of the European diplomate in equine internal medicine and surgery. Services include imaging, surgery, physiotherapy, farriery, lameness examinations, eye and dental care, foal care and a blood bank.
Owners travelling from far away are advised to have their own vet assess the horse and give first aid first. Appointment and referral instructions are on the university website. The entrance and parking area are wheelchair accessible.
