The café opened in 1986 on the second floor of the Academic Bookstore in Helsinki, in a building designed by Alvar Aalto. It serves sweet and savoury treats, breakfast daily and a soup lunch on weekdays, and there is also an Afternoon Tea menu.
Tables can be booked online, and there is table service. Besides coffee and tea there is beer, wine and spirits. A visit usually takes 15 minutes to an hour, and cards and mobile payments are accepted. The website is in Finnish, Swedish, English and Japanese.
